Silicon Carbide Grit

Junda Silicon Carbide Grit is the hardest blasting media available. This high-quality product is manufactured to a blocky, angular grain shape. This media will break down continuously resulting in sharp, cutting edges. The hardness of Silicon Carbide Grit allows for shorter blast times relative to softer medias.

Silicon carbide has a very high hardness, with a Mohs hardness of 9.5, second only to the world's hardest diamond (10). It has excellent thermal conductivity, is a semiconductor, and can resist oxidation at high temperatures.
Silicon Carbide is hexagonal crystal, with stable chemical properties, high thermal conductivity, small thermal expansion coefficient, good wear resistance, Mohs hardness of 9.5. It has black and green two basic varieties. Black silicon carbide has good toughness, it is widely used in glass industry,  ceramic industry, stone industry, refractory industry, iron industry, non-ferrous industry and so on. Green silicon carbide has good self-sharpening, and is mostly used for processing hard alloy, titanium alloy and optical glass, and also for honing cylinder liner and accurate grinding HSS tool.

Product Feature

Due to its stable chemical properties, high thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, and good wear resistance,silicon carbide has many other uses besides being used as abrasives. For example, silicon carbide powder is applied to the impeller or cylinder of a water turbine by a special process. The inner wall can improve its wear resistance and prolong its service life by 1 to 2 times; the high-grade refractory material made of it has heat shock resistance, small size, light weight, high strength and good energy-saving effect. Low-grade silicon carbide (containing about 85% of SiC) is an excellent deoxidizer.It can speed up the steelmaking speed, and facilitate the control of chemical composition and improve the quality of steel. In addition, silicon carbide is also widely used to make silicon carbide rods for electric heating elements.

Black silicon carbide is black, brittle and sharp, and has good thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity. It takes petroleum coke and high quality silicon as raw materials, adds salt as additive, and is fused through the electric resistance furnace at more than 2200˚C temperature. Compared with green silicon carbide, black silicon carbide is with slightly lower purity, hardness and brittleness, hexagonal crystalline of microscopic shape, 3300kg/mm3 of microhardness. Its hardness is higher than corundum but lower than diamond, cubic boron nitride and boron nitride among abrasives. Density is 3.2g/mm3, the natural bulk density of black silicon carbide abrasive is 1.2-1.6g /mm3, and the specific gravity is 3.20 - 3.25. Our silicon carbide has advantages of high hardness, low expansion coefficient, and good thermal conductivity etc.
