UpdateAugust 14th, 2026

Small-Diameter Grinding Media for Secondary Ball Mills and Regrind Circuits

JUNDA B2 forged steel grinding balls in 20-40 mm diameters are designed for copper ore secondary grinding, fine grinding, and selected regrind applications.

Available in 20, 25, 30 and 40 mm diameters, JUNDA B2 grinding balls can be selected according to mill type, feed size, target P80, ore characteristics and grinding circuit configuration.

Why Use 20-40 mm Grinding Balls for Copper Ore?

As copper ore progresses from primary size reduction to secondary and fine grinding, the required grinding media size typically becomes smaller. Smaller grinding balls provide a larger number of grinding media per unit mass and can increase the number of grinding contacts in appropriate fine-grinding circuits.

JUNDA 20-40 mm B2 forged grinding balls are designed for these applications, where the objective is to achieve efficient size reduction and mineral liberation rather than high-energy primary grinding.

More Grinding Contacts

Smaller balls provide a larger number of individual grinding media within the same grinding charge, supporting more frequent grinding contacts.

Fine Particle Size Reduction

20-40 mm media can be considered when the grinding circuit requires a finer product size than the preceding primary grinding stage.

Controlled Wear

B2 hardness is designed to provide a balance between wear resistance and mechanical integrity.

Flexible Size Selection

20, 25, 30 and 40 mm sizes allow the grinding media to be matched to different feed sizes and target P80 requirements.

Note: These are general selection guidelines. The optimum ball size should be determined according to feed size, target P80, ore hardness, mill diameter, mill speed, ball charge and circuit configuration.
Test results depend on ball size, test method and operating conditions. Actual performance should be evaluated according to the applicable test standard or customer operating data.

FAQ

What are 20-40 mm B2 grinding balls used for?
JUNDA 20-40 mm B2 forged grinding balls are mainly used for copper ore secondary grinding, fine grinding and selected regrind applications in ball mills.
Why are smaller grinding balls used for copper ore fine grinding?
Smaller grinding balls provide a larger number of grinding media per unit mass and can generate more grinding contacts. They are therefore often considered when the grinding circuit requires finer particle size reduction.
What size grinding balls are used for copper ore secondary grinding?
30-40 mm grinding balls can be considered for many secondary grinding applications, while 20-30mm media may be more suitable for finer grinding or regrind circuits. The optimum size depends on feed size, target P80, ore hardness and mill conditions.
Are 20mm grinding balls suitable for copper ore grinding?
Yes. 20mm grinding balls can be considered for fine grinding and regrind applications where the feed is already relatively fine and a smaller grinding media size is required.
What hardness do B2 grinding balls have?
For JUNDA's 20-40 mm B2 grinding balls, typical surface hardness is approximately 62-66 HRC, depending on ball diameter and production specification.
Can 20-40 mm B2 balls be used in primary grinding?
They can be used in selected primary or intermediate ball-mill circuits when the feed size and mill configuration are suitable. However, larger grinding media are commonly considered when coarse feed requires higher impact energy.
What is the difference between primary and secondary grinding media?
Primary grinding generally handles coarser feed and may require larger grinding media to provide sufficient impact energy. Secondary and fine grinding operate on smaller feed and often benefit from smaller media that provide more grinding contacts.
How do I choose between 20 mm, 25 mm, 30 mm and 40 mm balls?
Selection should consider feed size, target P80, ore hardness, mill diameter, mill speed, ball charge and classification performance. JUNDA can recommend a suitable size based on your actual grinding conditions.
Are B2 grinding balls suitable for copper sulfide ores?
B2 forged grinding balls can be used in copper sulfide ore grinding applications. The appropriate grade and hardness should be evaluated according to ore abrasiveness, grinding conditions and the overall circuit performance.
Can JUNDA supply customized B2 grinding balls?
Yes. JUNDA can supply different diameters, hardness specifications and packaging configurations according to customer requirements.
What information should I provide for a grinding media recommendation?
For a more accurate recommendation, please provide your mill type and diameter, feed size, target P80, ore type, ore hardness, current grinding media size and grade, mill speed and grinding media consumption if available.
