Product Description
B2/B3 Forged Steel Grinding Balls for Gold Ore Primary Grinding Mills, 80-150 mm  Update:April 13th, 2026

Designed for Coarse Feed and High-Impact Primary Grinding Conditions

JUNDA B2 and B3 forged steel grinding balls are designed for gold ore primary grinding applications where coarse feed, repeated impact and stable grinding performance are important considerations.

For primary grinding circuits, larger grinding media can provide higher impact energy to break coarse ore particles. B2 and B3 grades offer different combinations of hardness, toughness and wear resistance for different mill operating conditions.

Available in diameters from 20 to 150 mm, JUNDA can supply grinding balls according to mill type, feed size, ore characteristics and customer requirements.

Why Choose B2/B3 Grinding Balls for Gold Ore Primary Grinding?

1. Suitable for Coarse Primary Grinding

Larger grinding balls are commonly considered for primary grinding circuits handling relatively coarse gold ore feed, providing higher impact energy for initial particle breakage.

2. B2 and B3 Material Options

B2 provides a combination of hardness, wear resistance and impact toughness, while B3 offers a higher-alloy option for demanding impact and abrasion conditions.

3. Good Impact Resistance

Forged steel balls are manufactured with controlled forging and heat treatment to provide the toughness required for repeated impact inside grinding mills.

4. Stable Wear Performance

Controlled hardness and heat treatment help maintain predictable wear behavior during continuous grinding, supporting more stable grinding media consumption.

5. Multiple Ball Sizes

JUNDA supplies forged steel grinding balls from 20 to 150 mm. Larger sizes can be selected for primary grinding according to feed size, mill design and operating conditions.

Gold Ore Primary Grinding: Why Ball Size Matters
In a gold ore primary grinding circuit, the grinding media must break relatively coarse feed material efficiently before the ore enters downstream grinding and mineral recovery stages.

Ball diameter is therefore an important selection factor. Larger grinding balls provide greater impact energy, while smaller balls provide more contact points for finer grinding.

Typical Selection Principle
Grinding Stage Typical Ball Size Main Purpose
Primary Grinding 80-150 mm Break coarse ore feed
Secondary Grinding 50-90 mm Further reduce particle size
Fine Grinding 20-40 mm Produce finer particle size
Ball size should be selected according to the mill design, feed size, ore hardness, target product size and operating conditions.

B2 vs. B3 for Gold Ore Primary Grinding
Material Main Characteristics Suitable Condition
B2 High hardness, good wear resistance and good impact toughness General primary grinding conditions
B3 Balanced hardness, wear resistance and higher impact resistance for demanding conditions Higher-impact or more abrasive primary grinding
How to choose?
Choose B2 when wear resistance and overall grinding performance need to be balanced under normal primary grinding conditions.
Consider B3 when the grinding circuit involves higher impact loads, larger feed particles or more demanding abrasion conditions.

FAQ

What grinding balls are used for gold ore primary grinding?
Forged steel grinding balls such as B2 and B3 can be used for suitable gold ore primary grinding applications. The appropriate grade and diameter depend on ore characteristics, feed size, mill design and operating conditions.
What size grinding balls are typically used for gold ore primary grinding?
Larger grinding balls, commonly around 80-150 mm in suitable large-scale grinding circuits, may be considered for coarse primary grinding. The final ball size should be determined according to feed size, mill diameter, mill speed and target product size.
Why are larger grinding balls used in primary grinding?
Larger balls provide higher impact energy and can be effective for breaking relatively coarse ore particles during the initial grinding stage. Smaller balls generally provide more contact points and are more commonly associated with finer grinding stages.
What is the difference between B2 and B3 grinding balls for gold ore?
B2 offers a balanced combination of hardness, wear resistance and toughness for general grinding conditions. B3 provides a higher-alloy option for applications where higher impact and abrasion demands need to be considered.
Should I choose B2 or B3 for gold ore primary grinding?
B2 may be suitable for general primary grinding conditions, while B3 can be considered for more demanding impact and abrasion conditions. The final selection should be based on ore hardness, feed size, mill operating conditions and grinding media performance data.
Can 10-150 mm grinding balls be used for gold ore?
Yes. 100-150 mm forged steel grinding balls can be considered for suitable primary grinding circuits handling coarse gold ore feed, particularly in larger mills. Final selection should be confirmed according to mill design and operating conditions.
Are these grinding balls suitable for SAG mills?
B2 and B3 forged steel grinding balls can be supplied for suitable SAG and ball mill applications. However, SAG mill grinding media selection should be based on mill diameter, impact conditions, feed size and the required ball diameter.
What affects grinding ball consumption in gold ore processing?
Grinding media consumption is affected by ore abrasiveness, hardness, feed size, mill operating conditions, ball size, material grade, hardness and grinding efficiency.
Is higher hardness always better for gold ore grinding balls?
No. Excessive hardness without sufficient toughness may increase the risk of cracking under high-impact conditions. Grinding balls should provide an appropriate balance between hardness, wear resistance and toughness.
Can JUNDA customize grinding ball size and material?
Yes. JUNDA can supply different grinding ball diameters and material grades according to customer requirements, mill conditions and agreed technical specifications.
Can JUNDA provide hardness and quality inspection data?
Yes. Surface hardness, core/volume hardness, dimensional tolerance and other agreed quality parameters can be inspected according to the applicable product specification.
What information should I provide when selecting gold ore grinding balls?
Please provide the mill type, mill diameter, feed size, ore hardness or Bond Work Index if available, target product size, current ball size, current grinding media grade and grinding media consumption. JUNDA can use this information to recommend a suitable grinding ball specification.
